Ashley's Surgery

Organized by Kitty Cottage Adoption Center

Ashley's Recovering Nicely
The surgeon recommended removing Ashley's tumor as soon as possible to avoid the risk of the tumor bleeding and further increasing in size.

Ashley had surgery the Monday before Thanksgiving. The surgery went very well. There were no signs of spread of the tumor to other organs or to other areas of the liver.

Also, the surgery wasn't as extensive as originally anticipated, so the cost was much less than the initial quote.

Surgery to Remove Ashley's Liver Tumor
Ashley arrived at the Cottage along with her big brothers, Sandy, Buddy, and Rusty, and sister Cindy (now adopted), after their human mom passed away. Most of the time, Ashley and her brothers can be found lounging and enjoying the garden murals in the Senior Room, but Ashley sometimes ventures into the kitchen to snooze on her favorite shelf. She is a tiny, unassuming, gentle kitty, but can let out a very loud meow when her breakfast or dinner is not served quickly enough. It is so amazing that such a teeny, 6 pound cat can belt out such a loud meow!! Read more about Ashley: http://www.kittycottage.org/ashley6-10.html

Ashley started to lose some weight earlier this year and after a battery of tests, it was discovered she has a tumor on her liver and severe dental disease. A repeat ultrasound of her liver revealed that the liver tumor increased in size, but has not yet spread to other organs. Ashley still has a lot of life to live and love to give and we want to help her in every way we can.

A consult with a soft tissue surgeon at University of Penn Vet Hospital was very encouraging. The surgeon feels the liver tumor can be successfully removed and once removed, no further treatment would be needed.

In October, Ashley had a successful dental procedure. Seven teeth plus several roots left from broken teeth were removed. Ashley has fully recovered from her dental and is now ready for her liver surgery.
